Schools - Relax Kids

Supporting students' wellbeing by equipping them with practical mental health support
Relax Kids PSHE and the character curriculum

Relax Kids aims to help children and young people develop a strong sense of self, build on their strengths, accept their perceived weaknesses and develop a set of positive values that will help them throughout their life. Sessions give pupils an opportunity to take time out to relax body and mind which helps them manage their energy.

Pupils learn mindfulness and relaxation techniques that bring self-awareness, help support resilience, guide pupils towards positive values and build the self-respect needed to manage risks. When pupils are able to self-regulate and stay calm, they are in a better position to learn, see their strengths, manage conflicts and differences and build positive and healthy relationships. Relax Kids sessions include movement, social games, stretching, peer and self-massage, breathing techniques, positive affirmations and self-talk, mindfulness and visualisations. Visualisations will look at bullying, anger and anxiety and help pupils manage these by invoking kindness, and empathy.

Sessions use positive affirmation cards, mood cards, power and value cards to help children develop positive feelings. Sessions teach pupils important self-regulating skills and give them tools to manage the issues they may face. Relax Kids helps support the following aspects of the PSHE Character frame work:

• interpersonal and social effectiveness
• self-awareness
• values
• resilience
• effectiveness within a wider community
• Managing Risks

What programs do you typically deliver in schools?

The work that I deliver in schools is varied and it is driven by the objectives and outcomes that the schools wish to achieve. Below are a few examples of what I offer to give you a flavour of what can be delivered.

Key Stage 1 & 2 - An introductory 6 weeks course to self-soothing and relaxation. Weekly sessions last between 30 and 45 minutes and they are based on a different imaginative theme each time. Children are introduced to a variety of mindfulness and relaxation techniques whilst playing and having fun.

1. Positive Thinking Session
